8-months term position Instructor of Ukrainian (Vacancy Number 749-131-13)
The Department of German and Slavic Studies and the Centre for Ukrainian-Canadian Studies at the University of Manitoba are advertising the position of an 8-month term sessional instructor in Ukrainian Language and Culture for the academic year 2013-14 (Start Date: 2 September 2013; End Date: 25 April 2014). The position is subject to final budgetary approval.
The successful candidate will teach the following 18 credit hours:
• UKRN 1310 Introductory Ukrainian (fall 2013 & winter 2014, 6 credit hours) • UKRN 2720 Intermediate Ukrainian (fall 2013 & winter 2014, 6 credit hours) • UKRN 2770 Ukrainian Culture 1 (fall 2013, 3 credit hours), conducted in English, a survey that examines Ukrainian Cultural Heritage from the pre-Christian era to the end of the 19th century • UKRN 3960 Advanced Ukrainian 2 (winter 2014, 3 credit hours).
The successful candidate will have a PhD (or be near completion) in Ukrainian Studies or Ukrainian-Canadian Studies, and a native or near-native command of English and Ukrainian, as well as successful teaching experience at the university level, particularly in Ukrainian language teaching, and a high level of expertise in the subject areas.
The successful candidate will organize and participate in teaching and events in the Centre for Ukrainian Canadian Studies and in the Ukrainian program of the Department of German and Slavic Studies.
The salary will be approx. $40,000. Note the vacancy announcement lists the salary by course; it will be eventually bundled to the eight-month term position.
