We understand that starting something new like dancing, which requires mind and body coordination, can be a bit intimidating. But don’t worry: Ukrainian social dancing is for real people. We want to share the thrill and connection we experience dancing like a wild Ukrainian at a zabava. The main thing is the enjoyment that dancing brings.

Each class will cover warm up, practicing footwork or a new concept, a short combination, review of material, and a cool down. Learn the fundamentals of Ukrainian dance, prepare combinations for the kolomeyka and more!

Join our talented instructor, Stanislav Galimkhanov, for these fun, social classes starting Thursday, November 28th at 805 E. Pender Street in Vancouver.

Stanislav graduated from the prestigious Bashkir Choreography College in Russia, an Artist of Folk Dance Ensemble, with a specialization in Choreography, and was conferred to the highest level awarded to dancers in Russia.

He has just returned from 3 months at the Royal Academy of Dance in London working towards his Professional Dancers’ Teaching Diploma.  R.A.D. has an international reputation for the highest teaching standards.  They have been leaders in dance education since 1920 and design programs that integrate theory and practice in order to address the ways in which dance relates to the bigger picture and to the lives and needs of individual students, whether they are recreational or elite, tots or adults.

Credits include: The Folklore Dance Company “Miras”; The State Academic Gaskarov Folk Dance Company; Russian and international tours; television choreography; Canadian performances, including the 2010 Vancouver Olympics Opening Ceremonies and acclaim from Dance International, The Globe & Mail and the Georgia Straight for his performance in the Goh Ballet’s Nutcracker; he is active in the Vancouver dance community, choreographing and teaching regularly.

With impeccable training in both classical ballet as well as folk dance, Stanislav embodies the modern aesthetic of the folk performing artist and conveys his great love of folk dance to children and senior dancers through his challenging and creative instruction in the studio, combining the precision of classical ballet with the excitement and flair of folk dance.  (http://www.auucvancouver.ca/?page_id=1134)
