On Sunday, May 3rd, 19th Annual Ukrainian Cultural Festival took place in Mission, BC.

Participants came to share their passion for Ukrainian dance from across British Columbia – including Victoria, Comox Valley, Prince George, Kamloops, Kelowna, Vernon, Surrey, Vancouver, Abbotsford and Mission – and also from Seattle.

To honor this outstanding event, the District of Mission officially proclaimed May 3, 2014 as ‘Ukrainian Cultural Festival Day in the District of Mission’.

Over two hundred dancers from under five to just over twenty years old presented to the audience the vast array of Ukrainian dance styles – Polissian, Bukovinian and Hutsul to name a few major groups. The festival concluded with a grand finale – energetic Hopak presented by five different dance ensembles!

The festival also hosted a children’s activity centre and displays from multiple local organizations, including the O.W.L. Ukrainian Canadian Education and Charity Trust – whose enthusiastic team educated visitors about their mission and continued to raise funds for children from Ukraine.
