UCC National Sports Committee

On behalf of Renata Roman, Chair National Sports Committee, Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC)

Dear UCC Board, Provincial Councils, Branches, Member Organizations and Committee Chairs,

In the aftermath of a successful Ukraine House in Vancouver during the 2010 Winter Olympics, the UCC Board decided to officially establish a National Sports Committee. The goal of the committee is to:

1. Create a data base for all sporting Ukrainian organizations in Canada

2. Create a data base for Ukrainian Canadian athletes, coaches and trainers

3. Develop a support system for Ukrainian Canadian athletes

4. Liaison between the Ukrainian Canadian community and visiting athletes from Ukraine

I am the current Chair of the UCC National Sports Committee and a Sport Physiotherapist from Toronto. My work in the sports medical field has allowed me to work with Ukrainian and Canadian athletes at national, international and Olympic competitions/events for the past 20 years.

In order to achieve the goals of the committee, we need your assistance. Please send names of sports teams, athletes, coaches and trainers from your community to renataroman@yahoo.com to be entered into the national sports database at UCC.

I also want to inform the community about a newly-revived Ukrainian Canadian organization – USCAK (Ukrainian Sports Committee America & Canada). It is now an independent organization in Canada and is a member of the UCC Toronto Branch. The goal of USCAK is to establish branches across Canada. This is a great venue through which to promote Ukrainian sporting organizations and have your team’s information and events listed on their website created for sport enthusiasts, so please visit www.uscak.org.
