Association of United Ukrainian Canadians celebrates Culture Days and its 85th Anniversary in Vancou

The Association of United Ukrainian Canadians School of Dance and Dovbush Dancers is proud to celebrate Culture Days with events on Friday September 27 and Saturday September 28th at the AUUC Ukrainian Cultural Centre in Vancouver.

Friday, September 27th features an Open Studio Rehearsal with Dovbush Dancers.  Discover the athleticism, precision and emotion of Ukrainian Folk-Stage dance. Get a taste of the diverse regional styles, steps and music of this popular and challenging dance form. Join the Directors for a Q&A at 7:30 and stay to watch Dovbush Dancers rehearse. The award-winning dancers will demonstrate the skills required to perform the intricate partner and pattern work, the exhilarating turns and jumps.

On Saturday September 28th from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, attend an Open House and take part in children’s crafts & activities, enjoy snacks and Ukrainian music, take a dance class for Parents & Kids, Children, Teens, and Adults! Discover the basics of Ukrainian folk dance and rhythms in a family-friendly environment.

The AUUC cultural groups encompass the culinary, musical, dance and choral traditions of Ukraine. The organization has an 85-year history in Vancouver which today reflects the modern multicultural and multigenerational experience.  The AUUC Vancouver is home to: the Ukrainian Senior Citizens Club; Barvinok Choir which blends Ukrainian repertoire with music from various folk traditions; the Vancouver Folk Orchestra, one of the city’s oldest folk orchestras; Dovbush Dancers, a young and highly-trained performing ensemble; AUUC School of Dance, offering quality, creative instruction to children, teens and adults; and events geared to preparing and serving the traditional foods of Ukraine.
